Government 101: Take the Plunge

Many people hold some peculiar notions about our history, the Constitution, and the government. "We the people" can't begin to solve our problems until we understand the governing process. It's a big subject. Here's some help.

Tradition, More Than Law, Surrounds State of the Union Address

Our Constitution requires the president report to Congress on the state of the union “from time to time”. Over the years, the process of delivering that information evolved into the exhibition we now call the State of the Union Address. The pomp and ceremony of the great assembly is all tradition. This year, you have a chance to participate.

We Need to Begin Teaching Civics Again

If “we the people” are going to control our government, then “we the people” need to know its structure, how it’s supposed to work, and how it actually does work. I’ve read the United States Constitution dozens of times. I wrote a book about it. I carry a copy of the Constitution in my purse because people always insist on arguing with me about what’s in it.

Hello Pittsburgh Women Bloggers!

Hello, I am happy to be asked to be part of this group and participate in my community in a meaningful way that helps bring us all together, rather than divide us. We have a wealth of talent, experience and education that if harnessed could help this city and region evolve in ways that the men alone have not been able to accomplish.

I look forward to doing my part in whatever way the universe deems necessary.

Reviving my Blog: No Longer the World's Slowest Blog

I've been blogging, on and off, for nearly nine years.

My blog, No Longer the World's Slowest Blog, has been kind of dusty over the last year or so, as I worked on a contract that kept me very busy and did an insane amount of traveling last year.

However, recently, I have started to write short pieces, so I hope you'll stop by. I'll also link to my blog from my Facebook page (LaurieMann) and my Twitter account (lauriedtmann).
