Lynn Cullen back "on air" on August 18th!

Lynn Cullen fans can hear "The Lone Liberal" once again via live streaming audio courtesy of the Pittsburgh City Paper.

It will be a one hour, weekday show at 10:00 AM starting on August 18th. The shows will be archived and downloadable.

I set up a group on Facebook to share the WAMO contact information and see how many people will sign up. A long, long time ago, I tried to get a petition going to bring another former radio talk host back on the air and learned that it really does boil down to advertisers. So while joining a group and sending an email is important, talking with the people you know who advertised on Lynn's former show is the way to go. If you know someone at Castle Windows, call them up.

What will be helpful in that regard is if you can say XXX amount of people signed up in support of Lynn.

My $.02 --- diversifying Pittsburgh's airwaves is a good thing. Making way for new voices isn't going to bring in a group of young fresh perspectives. That's going to happen online. Lynn is my ideal top choice to get back on the air because she's smart, liberal and engaging. She may not be 100% on all liberal issues, but who really is? I can't think of another talk show host that shares the same or more of my personal values. Besides, the important thing is she gets people thinking about my issues with good information and that's all I can ask.

Lynn Cullen, Don't Read This

Some fans, friends and followers of Lynn Cullen are asking folks to gather in the WPTT parking lot at 11:30 on Friday as a show of support at the end of her last show. It isn't really a surprise, surprise but please don't tell her. I am out of town that day and cannot go, but it would be great to get someone to liveblog what is a significant event in Pittsburgh media. Plus, I think there will be cake.

If you plan to go, shoot me an email and I'll let the organizers know. This is a concrete way to show that you value diverse voices on our local airwaves.

The Society's Gab Bonesso Up For An Award!

Hey, hey, hey. Our own talented and lovely Gabrielle Bonesso has been nominated for a 2007 Achievement in Radio award in the category of Best New Talent in the Market! Until recently, Gab was the producer and go to gal for the local John McIntire Show on the now defunct Man Station.

Inside sources tell me that Gab's talent has not gone unnoticed by the powers that be so, hopefully, she will resurface in the local market sometime soon. This will allow her to put out her secret feminist messages in the guise of pop culture love for Justin Timberlake and Jesus.

John himself has been nominated for best Talk Show Host. His program is up against Lynn Cullen (and others) for best daytime talk show.

The awards ceremony is November 8. Tickets are $55 so I think we'll have to cheer Gab on from the Internet. Someone should attend and live blog ... that would be ironic ... liveblogging about radio awards. I should ask for a press pass ...
