Marsha Schenley Marsha

Is it just me or does the very mention of the word "Schenley" make you want to beat your head against a wall just to make the whining (from all sides) stop?

I stopped caring long ago. Buildings never matter as much to me as people. I think we should get out the chainsaws to make more Pgh buildings accessible to our sisters and brothers who rely on assistive devices, historic designations be damned. I wish a fraction of the effort that has gone into this debate would be constructively channeled into working with other City high schools to get their parents fired up about academics, attendance, safety, outcomes, etc. Maybe dispersing the Schenley students would help spread that good parenting karma around a bit?

Aside: is it Marsha Brady or Marcia Brady?

  1. I never cared much about the building, to me it was all about the school.

And to that extent, the "good parenting karma" was being "spread around" the city geographically by having these different students interact at Schenley. Splitting up the students by program actually insulates the good parenting karma or whatever among students who already have it. Which was my concern.

  2. Well, this whole circumstance will hopefully generate an even more highly motivated group of parents who take their good stuff out to an even more diverse group of students. Lemonade.

  3. I'm getting sick of hearing about it also. Wonder if any of the protesters make regular donations to the Alumni Assoc. Or how many of the parents volunteer at the school or PTA.
My son went there for 5 days. He came home and asked me to get him the heck out of there.
I threatened him with Schenly for the duration of his High School years. It worked for me.

I think my mother did the same thing. Every time we got into trouble at catholic school, we were threatened with Schenley.

Beautiful Building though. Didn't they just put an addition or something on that building a few years back?

    It's Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

    THANK YOU!!!
I tried to take my "specal" kids to an Historic Library and had to haul two electric wheel chairs up five "historic" steps. We did it though, and the kids had a wonderful day.
