a lot of police and surveillance stuff seems pretty scary and corrupt. also, the huge expenditures for things local people don't really want like stadiums, convention centers and attracting huge chains is unfortunate.
Happily, transportation infrastructure and socioeconomic segregation may have synergistic methods of remediation. I kind of wonder whether, since we are scaling back, whether it makes sense to energetically citify the Port Authority and strengthen its core, and then regrow the spokes when it's ready.
