I'm endorsing Mark DeSantis for Mayor. Last night, he publicly stated his support for civil unions and pledged to appoint a liaison to the gay community in his Administration. He is also pro-choice, another very important litmus test for gay women.
Luke Ravenstahl, on the other hand, opposes gay marriage and civil unions. His only vote on choice was to oppose it. He may not have openly supported Rick Santorum, but he certainly mirrors Santorum when it comes to policy that matters for our community.
A vote for Mark DeSantis is a vote to move the gay community forward.

DeSantis is also pro-choice which affects us on a local level as regards things like the Bubble Legislation. Way back when before the Primary, he publicly stated he was also against contraception.
ReplyDeleteSeveral people told me today that they were surprised that Ravenstahl was anti-choice & anti-gay unions.
Plus Ravenstahl's track record as regards women within his administration is extremely troubling. Let's take a quick trip down Memory Lane: firing B.J. Leber & Susan Malie, punishing female whistleblowers, dissing women working to change the way the police handle domestic violence within their ranks.
In the days leading up to the election it's important to inform people about this - even people who we think might already be aware of it.
i read this at your blog. a few more good resons to vote for him.
ReplyDeleteand i am a democrat, in case anyone wondered.
Just for the record, BJ Leber and Susan Malie were fired when Bob was still alive. But I do agree Ravenstahl's record re women is abysmal.

ReplyDeleteWhile absolutely correct in itself, there is considerable uncertainly as to how much the current regime influenced that decision.
